The CAN DO Student Action Committee delivered a collection of dozens of boxes of items to the American Legion Post 473 in Freeland Thursday as part of the 14th annual Operation: CAN DO drive.
The collected items will be used to create care packages for military service members with ties to Greater Hazleton who will be stationed abroad for the holidays. Student Action Committee members are urging the public to contact CAN DO with the names and addresses of any local friends or family members who are serving in the military.
CAN BE Coordinator of Entrepreneurial Services Jocelyn Sterenchock presented the 2018 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Jeremy Thorne during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s 18th annual Business and Community Awards Luncheon. This marks the fifth consecutive year that CAN BE has sponsored the award.
Thorne is the owner of ThorneCare Landscape Solutions, LLC, a professional landscape company with more than 14 years of experience in the industry. He began his entrepreneurial career by starting a mowing business at an early age. By the age of 25, Jeremy went on to attend college and pursue a horticultural degree. After working for a time at a landscaping company in State College, Thorne returned to Greater Hazleton so he could start his own business proving quality landscaping services.
Best Cigar Prices, which sells premium cigars and accessories via the internet, telephone, catalog and at its facility in the CAN DO Corporate Center in Drums, held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for Best Cigar Pub, the company’s new state-of-the-art store, lounge, bar and restaurant scheduled to open in the late spring of 2019.
The two-story addition will add just under 3,000 square feet to Best Cigar Prices’ existing 25,000-square-foot building. The company expects to have 60 employees following the expansion, an increase of more than 20 percent over its current workforce. CAM Architects, Ltd., of Wilkes-Barre assisted Best Cigar Prices with the design and Kingston contracting firm Champion Builders, Inc., will construct the addition.
