Nancy R. StaskoCAN DO Director of Administration Nancy R. Stasko has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, sponsored by Berger Family Dealerships.

The Award, presented each year to a Hazleton Area businesswoman “for outstanding professional achievement,” will be presented at the 119th Annual Meeting of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce. The dinner meeting will take place on Thursday, May 19th at the Genetti Best Western Inn & Suite Hall of Presidents.

Stasko serves as Director of Administration at CAN DO, Inc., Greater Hazleton’s economic development organization. In that role, she manages office and administrative services, coordinates public relations and serves as Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) coordinator for a large portion of Greater Hazleton in two different zones.

As assistant to CAN DO President Kevin O’Donnell, Stasko coordinates his extensive schedule and researches requests for information, among many other tasks. This year marks her 16th anniversary with CAN DO. Only a year after she was hired as an executive secretary, she was promoted to her current position. Stasko is instrumental to the many volunteers who serve the CAN DO organization, assisting in coordinating many activities and special events. She also serves as assistant secretary for the CAN DO Board of Directors and assistant secretary for the CAN DO Community Foundation as well as fund drive coordinator.

Stasko is committed to lifelong learning, having earned her associate’s degree in business from Luzerne County Community College in 2007. While attending, she attained dean’s list status while working full-time and was inducted into many honor societies while in pursuit of her degree.

Stasko is a member of many civic and service organizations in Greater Hazleton, including the Castle Auditorium Board of Directors, Serento Gardens Board of Directors, Hazleton POWER and the Greater Hazleton Area Civic Partnership. She has also served as a board member of Leadership Hazleton, a committee member for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Chamber Awards committee. Most recently, she has been named to the United Way of Greater Hazleton board of directors. Stasko has also volunteered her time for many events that benefit the Hazleton community, including the Great PA Cleanup and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and has participated in several volunteer missions trip throughout the country with her church, Christ Lutheran Church in Conyngham.

Stasko has been honored with several resolutions for her service throughout the community, including one from former State Rep. Todd Eachus and one for her work with the CAN DO Community Foundation. She was previously selected as the Business and Professional Women’s “Woman of the Year” and was a 1998 YWCA PEARL award winner. She is a member of the Assocation of Fund Raising, National Association of Female Executives, National Assocation of Professional Women and previously the Society of Human Resources Managers and has been licensed as a notary public in the state of Pennsylvania since 1995.
