The CAN DO Student Action Committee kicked off the 2024-25 fiscal year by welcoming a fresh wave of junior and senior representatives during its yearly orientation on August 23rd, 2024. These student representatives are selected from the area’s local high schools to serve as non-voting members on CAN DO’s Board of Directors.
Senior representatives for this year include Alex Composto (MMI), who will serve as Student Chair, Javier Vasquez (HAHS), Hayden Schwabe (MMI), Ava Sahaida (WAHS), Shelli Selby (ICS), Gabriella Bredbenner (HAHS), Luke Palmieri (HAAS), Erica Boyle (MHS), and Johncarlos Peralta (HAHS). Junior representatives include Ariamdalys Ramos Alvarez (HAAS), Isabella Campbell (ICS), Isabella Horvat (MHS), McKenna Gerhard (WAHS), and Ava Genetti (MMI).
Orientation for the new cohort of Committee members kicked off with an engaging icebreaker, "Finding Common Ground," fostering connections between students, staff, and board members. The session also introduced the students to CAN DO’s mission, history, and organizational core values – all of which will guide the students in their work throughout the year.
Student Chair, Alex Composto, encouraged active participation; emphasizing the importance of student voices in shaping community-centered initiatives such as Operation: CAN DO, CAN DO Community Christmas, and the CAN DO Community Park Tree Lighting. The 13-member committee will also tour local industries, gaining hands-on leadership experience while exploring career paths within the region.
