CAN DO received more than $1.8 million in Community Development Block Grant funding through Luzerne County that it will use for continuing phases of the White Birch Road extension project.
Luzerne County Manager David Pedri announced the grant as part of his keynote speech during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s recent Red Carpet Breakfast. CAN DO is among six municipalities in lower Luzerne County that are sharing a pool of $15 million in block grant funds.
CAN DO has earmarked the $1,851,767 in funding for the ongoing project to extend White Birch Road in the Humboldt Industrial Park. The new road is part of a project to create a second access road into the park from Route 424, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Beltway, as well as provide another outlet to reach Interstate 81.
The CAN DO Student Action Committee recently celebrated the launch of its 14th Operation: CAN DO drive, an annual program that creates and ships care packages to military members with ties to Greater Hazleton who will be stationed abroad for the holidays, and is requesting help from the community to gather the names of service members so packages can be sent to them for the holidays. The Student Action Committee conducts the annual drive with assistance from the Freeland American Legion Post 473.
CAN DO held its 11th annual Curb Appeal Awards ceremony to recognize tenants across its Humboldt, Valmont and McAdoo industrial parks, Humboldt Station and the CAN DO Corporate Center who use landscaping to present beautifully maintained facilities.
The awards were presented during an industry mixer held Thursday at Residence Inn by Marriott in Humboldt Station. The mixer was co-sponsored by Residence Inn and Coordinated Health.
