curb-appealSeveral companies in CAN DO’s industrial parks received CAN DO Curb Appeal Awards for the appearance and visual appeal of their properties.

CAN DO, Greater Hazleton’s economic development agency, presented the sixth annual Curb Appeal Awards on Thursday to industrial park tenants who have beautified and maintained their properties. The awards were presented to companies in Humboldt, Humboldt North, McAdoo and Valmont industrial parks and the CAN DO Corporate Center during an industry mixer at Residence Inn by Marriott in Humboldt Station.

CAN DO President Kevin O’Donnell said, “These winners deserve to be recognized for the efforts they have put in to creating attractive properties and continuing to maintain them. CAN DO appreciates the dedication of the Curb Appeal Awards winners to ensuring their properties look great.”

Lonnie Polli, co-chair of the Curb Appeal Awards Subcommittee, said, “These awards are a testament to the businesses that care about the everyday appearance they present to their employees and the Greater Hazleton community. The companies that have been named Curb Appeal winners should be proud of themselves and their facilities.”

Gary Danish, co-chair of the Curb Appeal Awards Subcommittee, said, “This program not only promotes the appeal of CAN DO’s parks, but also the overall business climate in Greater Hazleton. We congratulate all the winners of the CAN DO Curb Appeal Awards.”

Curb Appeal Award plaques were presented in two categories: companies with 1 to 75 employees in their local facility and companies with more than 75 employees.

Winners in the 1-to-75-employee category are: Econoco, Humboldt Industrial Park; Troy Manufacturing and Johns Manville, Valmont Industrial Park; JPC Equestrian, CAN DO Corporate Center; and Altadis, McAdoo Industrial Park.

Winners in the more-than-75-employee category are: Quad Graphics, Humboldt Industrial Park; AutoZone, Humboldt North; and EAM Mosca and the Dial Corporation, a Henkel company, Valmont Industrial Park.

The winner in the Commercial Services category is PPL in Humboldt Industrial Park and the winner in the Commercial – Hotels, Restaurants, Retail category is Capriotti’s in McAdoo Industrial Park.

PPL was named the overall winner and received the top award in the program.

“PPL and its employees have gone above and beyond to maintain the attractiveness of the company’s System Facilities Center in Humboldt Industrial Park. PPL won the overall award because of the attractive landscaping, maintenance and upkeep at the facility,” Danish said.

Applications for the 2014 Curb Appeal Awards will be sought next summer, and committee members encouraged companies in CAN DO’s industrial parks to begin considering an entry now.

“We are excited to welcome more companies to the ranks of our Curb Appeal winners and are already anticipating next year’s awards,” Polli said.

The other members of the Curb Appeal Awards Subcommittee are Charlie Burkhardt, CAN DO Student Action Committee adviser; Dorothy Anderson, Catherine Sachs, Carla Thaller and Nancy Stasko, CAN DO, Inc.

Residence Inn by Marriott was the mixer sponsor. Award sponsors were Arc Electric, Eddie’s Lawn and Landscaping, Nause Landscaping Inc., Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Association, Tootsie Roll and Walko Landscaping and Nursery Inc.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors, especially the Residence Inn by Marriott. We appreciate their continued commitment to the Curb Appeal Awards program and to business relations in Greater Hazleton,” O’Donnell said.
