web-CAN-DO-Christmas-planning-1-copyThe CAN DO Student Action Committee is inviting the community to come together and ring in the Christmas season as it hosts the 23rd annual CAN DO Community Christmas on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Church and Green streets in Hazleton.

The Student Action Committee coordinates the festivities every year as one of its community service projects. The event features music from several school groups. Children will also be able to meet with Santa Claus and write letters to Santa with the help of the CAN DO students. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras, as Santa will be available for photos with the children. Admission to Community Christmas is free and cookies will be provided by the Keystone Job Corps.

“CAN DO Community Christmas continues to unite the community in a celebration of the holiday season and recognizes the talented musical arts students we have right here in Greater Hazleton,” said CAN DO President and CEO Kevin O’Donnell.

The Community Christmas will once again honor the overall theme of “Come Celebrate the Arts” and will feature holiday music selections performed by the MMI Chamber Ensemble, the Hazleton Area High School Chamber Singers, the Heights-Terrace Elementary/Middle School Jazz Ensemble, the Hazleton Area High School Jazz Ensemble and the Heights-Terrace Elementary/Middle School third-grade chorus. Each student who performs will receive a T-shirt.

The Student Action Committee is made up of local high school students who serve on the CAN DO Board of Directors. Co-chairs for this year’s Community Christmas are Hazleton Area High School senior Monica Abdelmalek and Marian High School senior Dominic Mussoline. Charles Burkhardt and Nancy Stasko serve as advisers to the Student Action Committee.
