A Humboldt Industrial Park logistics company that operates from a 525,000-square-foot facility and ships hundreds of trailers of food products across the northeastern United States each week has been named one of the Top Green Providers for 2015 by Food Logistics magazine.

In 2009, Romark Logistics embarked on a mission to become a more energy-efficient operation and achieve the goals of reaching landfill-free status and eliminating its carbon footprint. Six years later, the third-party logistics company celebrated its sustainability efforts after receiving the recognition from the food logistics industry publication.

Ryan Ziegler, Director of Facilities and Sustainability Management at Romark, said his company’s facility in the Humboldt Industrial Park has reached 98.5 percent landfill-free status as a result of its commitment to running a “green” operation that benefits its employees, customers and the local community. The building is designed as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-qualified facility that’s certified for meeting energy efficiency standards. It’s outfitted with more than 8,500 solar panels on the roof, LED and T5 lighting, a high efficiency battery charging area and a refrigeration system.

Ziegler said the Greater Hazleton facility meets all of the optimal standards for the food processing industry. “The facility is designed to achieve great levels of cleanliness that is necessary for the latest food safety guidelines. Our associates are highly trained and work very well together to deliver the product at the right quantity, at the right time, and to the right place every time.”

Ziegler said the company greatly benefits from being located in Greater Hazleton just off Interstate 81 and close to Interstate 80 because of the access to these and other major highways.

“The northeast market represents roughly 18 percent of the country’s population. Our access to all major highways makes this location a huge win for logistics,” Ziegler said. “We have found that the Greater Hazleton area comes with the added bonus of having a hardworking, dedicated workforce. There’s a diverse pool of employees to pull from in the area. They not only take their jobs very seriously, but they’re family-oriented and friendly and that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of our company.”
