One of the premier public refrigerated warehouse companies in the United States is coming to Greater Hazleton.

U.S. Cold Storage (USCS) is in the process of building a new 5.7 million cubic foot (roughly 180,000 SF) distribution facility in Humboldt Industrial Park North.

The new facility is being developed in three phases, which upon full build out will total more than 500,000 SF and employ approximately 150. Phase 1 of the project is slated for completion in July.

The facility will primarily serve as a distribution center for frozen food products typically found in grocery stores and used in restaurants throughout the northeast.

USCS Vice President of Corporate Development and Logistics Larry Alderfer said three primary factors lead to choosing Humboldt Industrial Park as the location for the new facility.

“We found Humboldt Industrial Park an ideal location for a distribution center because of the close proximity to Interstates 81 and 80. The area is growing and the workforce matches what we look for in determining the site for a new location,” he said. “Also, the fact that the site has Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) status and offers rail service made it an attractive location for us.”
