CAN DO Chairmans AwardCAN DO, Inc. honored board member Elaine Judd with its 2016 Chairman’s Award during CAN DO’s 60th annual dinner on June 7.

CAN DO Board of Directors Chairman Dr. John Madden presented the award, which recognizes outstanding volunteer contributions to the organization, to Judd for her commitment to CAN DO. Judd currently serves as Chair of the CAN DO Community Relations Committee, serves as a member of the Executive Committee and is involved in other aspects of the organization as well.

“It’s an honor to receive this award. I feel honored to be a part of this community of dedicated volunteers,” Judd said.

Elaine Judd is the widow of the late Robert Judd, who served as a CAN DO board member for 30 years and was an officer when he passed away in 2011. While he served on the board, she would frequently join her husband as a volunteer for various projects and events. Upon her husband’s death, Judd was asked to serve on the board in his place. She joined the CAN DO Board of Directors at the next induction and assumed the position of Community Relations Chair just three years later on July 1, 2015.

Judd also volunteers as a member of the CAN DO Community Foundation board of directors and was recently elected assistant secretary. She is working on the Freeland YMCA renovation project on behalf of the foundation. Judd is president of Arc Electric, which generously donated the television monitor system that CAN DO is using in its atrium today. This system promotes the organization’s functions and website for people who visit the offices.

For the past two years, Judd has offered space at Arc Electric’s facility to store the collection of items being gathered for “Operation: CAN DO,” a Community Relations committee service project that creates care packages for military service members with ties to Greater Hazleton who are stationed abroad for the Christmas holiday. She also provides a vehicle and a driver for delivery of items to the Freeland American Legion post.

Judd also is a sponsor and assists with the CAN DO Community Christmas event, which is held annually at Christ Lutheran Church in Hazleton.

Madden said, “On behalf of CAN DO, I’m very happy to honor a most deserving volunteer with this year’s Chairman’s Award. We thank Elaine for her commitment to CAN DO and the Greater Hazleton region.”
