CAN DO Community Christmas celebrates the sounds of the season on Dec. 4
Downtown Hazleton will come alive with the sounds of the season when the CAN DO Student Action Committee hosts its 27th annual CAN DO Community Christmas on Wednesday, December 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Church and Green streets in Hazleton.
The public is invited to attend this free event, which features a night of musical entertainment by various instrumental and choral groups from schools throughout Greater Hazleton. This year’s performers include the MMI Preparatory School Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Tina Lizbinski, the Hazleton Area High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Joseph Stefanko, the Hazleton Area High School Cougar Crooners under the direction of Kim Sharonoff, the Heights Terrace Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jennifer Gerhard, the McAdoo-Kelayres Mustang Chorus under the direction of Sandra Hoppey, and the Heights Terrace Elementary School Third Grade Chorus under the direction of Rachel Brimmer.
Schools throughout Greater Hazleton donate to Operation: CAN DO drive
Students from more than 10 schools throughout Greater Hazleton organized drives and collected dozens of boxes of supplies as part of the 15th annual Operation: CAN DO drive.
The CAN DO Student Action Committee partners with the Freeland American Legion Post 473 to collect non-perishable food and personal hygiene items, as well as monetary donations, that are used to assemble care packages that are shipped to military members with ties to Greater Hazleton who are stationed abroad for the holidays.
CAN BE clients American Eagle Solutions and Ashley Evert win Chamber business awards
Two clients associated with CAN BE received awards as part of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Business and Community Awards program.
Halogen Hair Company owner Ashley Evert, who was one of the first business owners that CAN BE officials worked with outside of its incubator as part of The Hazleton Innovation Collaborative (THInC) program, won the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, which is sponsored by CAN BE. American Eagle Solutions, which is co-owned by Shane Acernese and Robert Bradley and located in the CAN BE Innovation Center in the Valmont Industrial Park, was one of two recipients of the Green Business of the Year award.

L F Knitwear owner Laura Evans has taken a unique cross-country journey to turning her entrepreneurial dreams into a reality. And, now that she has a professional base of operations in the CAN BE Innovation Center in the Valmont Industrial Park, Evans is in a solid position to continue growing her business.
At L F Knitwear, Evans uses a knitting machine to hand-loom sweaters, hats, scarves and blankets for sports fans of professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. She also makes regular hand-knit bulky sweaters, blankets and scarves.
Best Cigar Prices holds ribbon cutting for Best Cigar Pub in the CAN DO Corporate Center
Best Cigar Prices, a global e-commerce cigar retailer, held a ribbon cutting for Best Cigar Pub, a one-of-a-kind cigar lounge and retail store, at its facility in the CAN DO Corporate Center in Drums.
Although the private ribbon cutting event was held, Best Cigar Pub is not yet open to the public. However, company executives expect the grand opening to happen within a few weeks as soon as all details are finalized.
Best Cigar Pub is a 3,000 square-foot expansion of the company’s existing 25,000 square-foot distribution facility. It features an expanded retail store, where guests have access to the company’s massive humidor and can essentially shop its entire website selection in person.
