Companies are continuing to see the value of Greater Hazleton for their business, with several building new facilities or expanding in the recent months. These companies have cited factors such as the area’s workforce and easy access to major highways, airports and ports as pivotal in their decision to locate in the Hazleton area.
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. is constructing a 1-million-square-foot distribution center on a 128-acre parcel of land in Humboldt Industrial Park. AEO began construction this summer on the $160 million facility, which will ship items directly to consumers. When the new building is completed, it will be the largest industrial building in Greater Hazleton.
American Eagle Outfitters is a leading specialty retailer that targets younger consumers. The company is based in Pennsylvania, with headquarters near Pittsburgh. CEO Robert Hanson said, “Due to the growth of American Eagle Outfitters, we are delighted to launch this new distribution center that will bring additional jobs to the Pennsylvania community. We are pleased that AEO will have a greater presence in the Commonwealth.”

CAN DO has upgraded and enhanced its website, rebuilding it from the ground up to be more usable as well as mobile friendly for tablet and phone devices.
The new web site uses a state-of-the-art development technique called “responsive design,” which enables the site to automatically respond and reflow to fit the many sizes of devices that exist today.
From tablets to phones to widescreen desktops, the new site is easier to view and use.

Tech Packaging, Inc. a contract packaging firm based in Jacksonville, Fla., announced on July 31 that it is constructing a new 223,200-square-foot facility that will handle approximately $15 million in inventory a year in Humboldt Industrial Park, Hazle Township.
The company expects to hire 95 full-time workers within three years of the plant’s opening next spring. Tech Packaging, Inc. also operates a facility in Berwick.
Founded in 1990, Tech Packaging, Inc. provides a variety of packaging services including shrink wrapping, over wrapping, blister packs and clamshells, as well as repacking, relabeling and date coding services. Among the company’s many corporate clients are PepsiCo, Frito Lay, Del Monte, Unilever, Ocean Spray and Kellogg’s.
Company founder and President Bob Janes said Greater Hazleton was an excellent site for his company’s expansion. “We chose the area in large part because of its logistics, including the proximity to Interstates 81 and 80. Since our company has been experiencing such a large volume of growth, we wanted a bigger location and saw the site in Humboldt Industrial Park as perfect for our needs. The size of this building will be advantageous for our company and lead to cost savings for our customers,” he said.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said the project is expected to generate a total capital investment in excess of $12.4 million in infrastructure, equipment and employee training costs, resulting in 95 new jobs and 245 more retained positions in Luzerne County.

(Hazleton, PA – May 22, 2013) – American Eagle Outfitters, Inc., a leading specialty retailer with more than 920 stores in the U.S. and Canada that targets younger consumers, announced today that it is constructing a one million square foot direct-to-consumer distribution center in Humboldt Industrial Park, Hazle Township.
Today’s announcement was made by AEO during an earnings teleconference with investors and by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett in a press statement that said the company will invest more than $160 million to construct the distribution center that will bring 369 new jobs to Greater Hazleton over the next four years. AEO will also employ around 600 more part-time workers during peak seasons.
“AEO’s decision to locate its newest distribution center in Humboldt Industrial Park is further testament to what many other companies located here already know… Greater Hazleton is a perfect location for industry, not only because of our ideal location in the Northeast, but also for our dedicated quality workforce,” said Kevin O’Donnell, CAN DO’s president.

Progressive Converting (Pro-Con), the largest independent paper converter by market share in the United States, has leased 212,964 square feet of industrial space in Humboldt Industrial Park, Hazle Township, from Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services.

One of the nation’s largest third party logistics (3PL) companies is expanding its operations in Humboldt Industrial Park.
For the second time in less than four months, GENCO has leased more than 200,000 square feet of industrial space from Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services at 61 Green Mountain Road in Humboldt Industrial Park, East Union Township, Schuylkill County. The firm now leases the entire 408,200 square foot building.
